Imran Khan’s Ex-Wife Avantika Malik Felt She ‘Wouldn’t Survive’ A Day Without Him: ‘I Thought I Would Die’
Avantika Malik has finally opened up about her divorce with Imran Khan, and recalled that she was weeping and wailing when they decided their marriage was over.
‘Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na’ actor Imran Khan and Avantika Malik got divorced in 2019, and ended their eight-year-long marriage. Years later, Avantika has finally opened up about their divorce, and recalled weeping and wailing the day they decided that their marriage was over. She said that back then, she felt she wouldn’t survive a day without Imran, and felt like she would die if their marriage ever broke.
In a conversation with Janice Sequeira for The Healing Circle powered by Coto, Avantika Malik said, “I had witnessed life go on after divorce, in my own home. And yet for me, the fear was so…I would feel that if my marriage broke, I would die. That’s what I felt. I felt like I would not survive a day without this guy. Because of my own fear and absolute lack of faith in myself, and that I know how to look after myself. But I was convinced that I will die."

She further added, “The day that we decided ‘this is it’, I remember weeping like there was an immediate death in the family. That was the kind of wailing and weeping. Because to me, that was it. I am dead. There is no way I can move on, there is no way I can have a life. I was petrified. I was also not earning a living at that time."
She said that she ‘latched on to’ Imran Khan, and was convinced that he is the only man who can save and protect her. “I don’t know if it is creeping from daddy issues, abandonment issues from childhood. So then you latch on to this man in your life and are like ‘this man is going to save me and protect me and only this man can do this for me’. And I was convinced," she said.
Reflecting on her failed marriage, Avantika shared that she had to grieve the end of the relationship as it was a significant emotional loss for her.
Imran Khan and Avantika Malik got married in 2011. They welcomed their baby girl Imara Malik Khan in 2014. They continue to co-parent their daughter.
